The church is located in the village of Krimovica in Donji Grbalj. It was built in a prominent position that has represented a place of cult for over 2000 years. The remains of an Illyrian tumulus and a Roman building with mosaics had previously been discovered at the site, now incorporated into the floor of the 18th-century church. The church was severely damaged during the earthquake of 1979.
The church is now fully restored, following the reconstruction of collapsed walls and parts of the building by the use of traditional techniques and original architectural elements preserved in the vicinity.
